The Myth of Race

Just because some people look similar do not mean they are from a race. People of different looks have been marrying each other for millennia and they have been changing how they look for millennia so even if there were pure biological races of humanity it has gone vanished. So pure race based on genetics and identity is a myth such as white race or Chinese race or Hindu race or Malay race or Persian race or Turkish race etc. We are all a hybrid race if can call it a race. Earth has never ceased to see migration as well and no such thing as native or locals as well rather just transition of humanity over millennia; a transition which is geographical, biological and cultural.

So, if anyone says our race is thousands of years old then I ask are these people of your so-called race today the same as thousands of years before? No changes? or marriages with other migrants? or migration to other places? Nazis thought they were the same as the 10000 years old Aryans but even science says human changes biologically over time so new racial traits being formed resulting in racial changes from your so called ancestral race.

But still why people call themselves as Malay race or Persian race or Turkish race etc.? The same reason why Nazis thought they were also Aryans. Simply put psychology of group ego and group identity is at work here. They see themselves as looking similar, talking similar and perhaps culturally similar so they assume they are a biological race. Today blacks, whites, browns, greys etc. may talk similar, may have same religion, same culture, same geography. Are they a race? Definitely not!

Biologically we are all different even people who think they look similar have differences with in. We can also call a race by similarity of language, culture, religion or even geography because pure identity based genetic race doesn’t exist. When Quran says God created us in tribes and nations it meant diverse political and social organizations instead of genetically aligned group diversity i.e. race. In Islam race has no importance and laws are not based on racial identity but rather on normative values. So those who say we are from Chinese race, Persian race, white race, Turkish race, Malay race etc. need to wake the hell up. If you want to you can just say we are all race of humanity with universal unchanging biological components of blood, flesh and bone and being created from sperm:

“Then We made the sperm into a clot of congealed blood; then of that clot We made a (foetus) lump; then we made out of that lump bones and clothed the bones with flesh; then we developed out of it another creature. So blessed be Allah, the best to create!” (Quran 23:14)
